QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) - A 55-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years in state prison for shooting his ex-wife’s boyfriend in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart store in upstate New York.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports (https://bit.ly/1ITEhPq ) that Raymond White apologized during his sentencing Wednesday in Warren County Court, where he pleaded guilty last month to an attempted murder and assault charges.

White said he didn’t remember shooting 57-year-old Robert Smith of Glens Falls with a shotgun last June as Smith sat in a car outside the Wal-Mart in Queensbury. White also said he wasn’t “in the right state of mind” that day.

Prosecutors said White shot Smith because he believed Smith was having a romantic relationship with White’s ex-wife.

Smith was working at the Wal-Mart at the time of the shooting. He has since recovered.
