NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman are announcing the creation of a task force to combat immigration services fraud.

The task force was announced Thursday. It will dedicate enforcement resources to stop predators from taking advantage of immigrant communities.

It will also conduct a public awareness campaign about President Barack Obama’s actions on immigration reform.

Schneiderman said there’s a growing problem of scam artists posing as immigration consultants or lawyers.

They prey on people who feel that, due to their immigration status, they can’t go to law enforcement for help.

The City Council has also funded programs to provide legal services for immigrants.
