McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office says an inmate at the state penitentiary in McAlester who was found dead during the weekend was strangled.

Spokeswoman Amy Elliot told the McAlester News-Capital (https://bit.ly/1y2NO5W ) that Saturday’s death of 36-year-old inmate Shawn Moore has been ruled a homicide.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Terri Watkins says the prison’s Inspector General’s Office is investigating the death and will provide the results to the Pittsburg County district attorney.

Watkins said Moore’s cellmate is being interviewed. The cellmate’s name has not been released.
