MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A city committee in Minot is recommending that an ordinance banning pit bulls in the city be amended to allow the use of the breed as service dogs.

Officials are concerned that the city could be sued under the Americans With Disabilities Act or other federal laws. The Public Works and Safety Committee is recommending the City Council change the ordinance.

The proposed change would affect pit bulls and other animals that are prohibited in Minot. It would come with some restrictions, such as the animal not being a nuisance or threat to others.

The City Council will take up the matter later.
