BETHANY, Okla. (AP) - Officials at a university in suburban Oklahoma City say police are investigating allegations that some students were involved in an alleged off-campus rape three years ago.

A statement issued Thursday by John Mashburn, general counsel at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, says the school received an email on Sunday alleging that a sexual assault occurred in 2012 involving university students. Mashburn says it was the first the university learned of the allegations.

Mashburn says officials contacted the Bethany Police Department on Monday to report the alleged incident. Mashburn says the school cannot corroborate the allegations but is cooperating with the police investigation. Mashburn also declined to release information about the students involved in the allegations.

The Bethany Police Department did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
