RICHMOND, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island State Police say troopers caught a New York City man with about 85 pounds of marijuana when they stopped a taxi on Interstate 95.

Authorities say they arrested 21-year-old Bing Zhou Liu of Brooklyn on I-95 northbound in Richmond Thursday after pulling over a New York-registered taxi for speeding and other violations. The taxi driver told police he was paid $400 to transport Liu from New York to Massachusetts.

Troopers say they found five FedEx boxes containing 85 vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana weighing about a pound apiece in the taxi. Authorities say the marijuana was worth about $300,000.

Liu was arrested on drug charges and detained pending an April 8 bail hearing. His response to the allegations is unknown. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
