SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Building activity in Sioux Falls in March shattered the city’s single-month record set about two years ago.

Building projects permitted during the month had a total value of $110.3 million, the highest amount ever for a single month. The previous record was $90.2 million April 2013.

Chief building official Ron Bell says there were a lot of large commercial projects permitted in March. The largest was a $20.4 million science center.

The record-breaking month puts the city’s total building permit valuation for the year at $155.7 million. That puts Sioux Falls on pace to break last year’s single-year construction valuation record of $620 million.
