ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The attorney for a man charged with a killing an Anchorage couple in their home two years ago says prosecutors lack evidence tying him to the crime.

Chong Yim gave his opening statement Thursday in the trial of 26-year-old Jerry Active, who is charged with killing 73-year-old Touch Chea and 71-year-old Sorn Sreap on May 25, 2013.

Anchorage television station KTUU (https://bit.ly/1Cgx4TD) reports Active is also charged with sexually assaulting Sreap, a 2-year old girl and an elderly woman in the eastside apartment.

Yim says Active had been in a fight the night of the homicides but didn’t commit them.

Prosecutor Adam Alexander told jurors the murder weapon was Active’s right foot and the heel of Active’s right sock was soaked in blood when he was arrested near the apartment.
