LEESVILLE, La. (AP) - Deputies with the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating the desecration of a tomb at an area cemetery.

KPLC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1akd2SE ) the sheriff’s office received a complaint Monday regarding property damage at the cemetery. Upon arrival, responders located a vault and head stone that appeared to have sustained damage from a vehicle.

Cemetery officials and family members of the of the affected individual’s grave site were notified because the casket was exposed to weather conditions. The casket has been removed until the vault and head stone can be replaced or repaired.

Patrols have been increased at local cemeteries, and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-238-1311 or CrimeStoppers at 337-239-2233.
