GLEN JEAN, W.Va. (AP) - Four West Virginia forests are being added to the Old Growth Forest Network.

The first West Virginia forest to be added to the network of ancient forests is one located in the federally protected New River Gorge National River. That will occur on April 15.

The other old growth forests being dedicated by the network are Cathedral State Park, Pierson Hollow of Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park and Gaudineer Scenic Area in Monongahela National Forest.

West Virginia is joining a number of states that have forests in the Old Growth Forest Network. They include New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, among others.
