PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon father whose Newberg property foreclosure was featured in a 2013 HBO documentary is getting another opportunity to pay off his half-million-dollar debt.

The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1GDnnH7) a Wells Fargo spokesman said the bank is working with John Cox, who owes a total of $551,000 including principal, interest, taxes and other expenses. His property was nearly sold at auction Wednesday.

Cox is looking at ways to generate income on his five-acre property, like renting out horse stalls and the lower floor of his house. The former state of Alaska employee said he becomes eligible for his pension in June, when the bank will reevaluate his financial situation.

The documentary makers of “American Winter” set up an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign that’s generated $10,220 for Cox and his son, Geral, a 13-year-old with Down syndrome.
