LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles woman whose dog attacked three people, including a 7-year-old boy who needed surgery, has pleaded not guilty to being a negligent owner.
Prosecutors say 56-year-old Cheryl Hooks entered the pleas to three felony counts on Tuesday. She later told The Associated Press that she is innocent.
Prosecutors say the dog, an Akita named Brody, attacked people over about a year-and-a-half beginning in 2013, including a boy who was mauled while in his driveway.
Two other people - a friend who was house-sitting for Hooks and a dinner guest - allegedly were bitten in the face in separate attacks.
Hooks could face more than four years in jail if convicted.
Akitas can weigh more than 100 pounds and originally were used as guard dogs in Japan.
