PLAQUMINE, La. (AP) - Iberville Parish voters head to the polls Saturday to consider renewing three 10-year tax proposals to help the school system maintain its alternative school programs, building maintenance and its ability to offer competitive salaries for its teachers.

The tax measures are projected to generate about $9.9 million a year for the school system.

Since they are renewals, residents will not pay any higher property tax millage than they currently pay.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1DALfDT) Iberville Parish pays its first-year teachers $47,024 annually.

Elsewhere in the parish, voters in the St. Gabriel area on Saturday will also have to select three candidates in a runoff to fill the remaining seats of the five-member City Council.
