PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (AP) - Search parties are looking for a man who went missing when his boat sank during storms in Louisiana.

WBRZ-TV (https://bit.ly/1HY0Zsd) reports Allen Fitzgerald disappeared Monday after his boat sank in Bayou Manchac, which links the Mississippi and Amrite rivers in southeast Louisiana. Fitzgerald and a passenger took shelter under a bridge as strong storms moved through the area but the boat started to take on water. The passenger jumped in the water and swam to safety. He says he didn’t see what happened to Fitzgerald.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries dragged the bayou but didn’t find the missing man. A spokesman says the cluttered river bed, swift current and high waters were making progress difficult.

The search effort resumes Wednesday morning.
