MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The birth mother of a slain 10-year-old Minnesota boy has arrived from Liberia to attend his funeral.

Louise Karluah arrived at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Several Liberian community leaders who were present tell the Star Tribune (https://strib.mn/1EE8u59 ) she did not address the media and was rushed into a car.

Karluah’s son, 10-year-old Barway Collins, was last seen alive getting off his school bus in front of his Crystal apartment March 18. His body was found in the Mississippi River April 11.

Barway’s father, Pierre Collins, is in Hennepin County jail, charged with second-degree murder in the boy’s death. Prosecutors suspect the boy was killed to collect insurance money.

Barway’s funeral originally was scheduled for April 25 but was rescheduled for Saturday at Shiloh Temple in north Minneapolis.
