VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) - A south Georgia university will begin offering in-state tuition to residents of several Southeastern states.

Valdosta State University officials said in a statement that beginning with the 2015-16 school year, the university will offer in-state tuition to applicants from South Carolina, Florida and Alabama.

Officials say the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents approved the school’s request to offer unlimited out-of-state tuition waivers to applicants from three bordering states on Monday.

Before this week, school officials say unlimited out-of-state tuition waivers were only offered to applicants from seven counties in Florida.

Vice President for the school’s Division of Enrollment, Marketing and Communications Andy Clark says the waivers allow VSU to recruit students from Jacksonville, Florida - where many university alumni live.
