DETROIT (AP) - Actor J.K. Simmons is scheduled to headline a fundraiser benefiting the Neighborhood Service Organization in Detroit.

The event will include a question and answer session and meet-and-greet Monday morning at the Sound Board in the MotorCity Casino Hotel.

Simmons is a Detroit native. He also will throw out the ceremonial first pitch Monday afternoon at Comerica Park for the Tigers’ home opener.

Simmons received an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role in “Whiplash.” He also was the Detroit Tigers manager in the 1999 film “For Love of the Game.”

NSO President and Chief Executive Sheilah Clay says Simmons has been a long-term supporter of the nonprofit which offers homeless recovery, mental health services and other programs in Wayne and Oakland counties.
