ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida man faces life in prison for killing his roommate, sexually abusing her corpse, killing her dog, stealing her car and checkbook and attempting to kill another roommate.

An Orange County jury found 20-year-old Bryan Santana guilty Thursday of first-degree murder and other charges. Prosecutors didn’t seek the death penalty, making a life sentence the only other option.

Prosecutors say Santana delighted in stabbing 23-year-old Shelby Fazio and defiling her corpse last October. Defense attorneys argued that Santana’s charges should have been reduced because of psychological issues.

The Orlando Sentinel (https://goo.gl/CvxZtc ) reports that during an interview after his arrest, Santana explained that he killed his roommate because it was going to be embarrassing that he didn’t have enough money for rent.
