NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - A Natchez woman has been charged with stealing checks from an area church.

The Natchez Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/1CBcK32 ) 38-year-old Lisa Leverette Freeman was booked in the Adams County jail earlier this week on a bench warrant for false pretense, burglary of a church and forgery.

An Adams County Sheriff’s Office spokesman says investigators believe Freeman broke into Washington Baptist Church and stole checks from the church. The sheriff’s office says Freeman has reportedly been arrested for similar crimes in Louisiana.

Freeman is being held on a $55,000 bond. It was unknown if she has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
