CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Dr. Jose Montero - New Hampshire’s director of public health for the past seven years - will be joining the staff of Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock of Keene.

Hospital officials said Thursday that Montero will become vice president for population health and health system integration.

Montero announced last week that he will resign from the Department of Health and Human Services May 1, after 15 years. He said at that time he couldn’t yet say where he was going, but that he planned to stay in the state.

Hospital officials say Montero will also serve as the hospital’s chief liaison to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on all matters relating to population health.

The 54-year-old Montero is expected to begin his new job in May.
