NORTHFIELD, Ohio (AP) - Officials in northeast Ohio say a gurney tipped over as paramedics moved someone to an ambulance during a medical emergency, and the patient who suffered a head injury in the accident later died.

The injury occurred March 26 as the patient was moved from a home in Northfield, about 15 miles southeast of Cleveland. A statement from village fire Chief Jason Buss (buhs) says an internal investigation determined it was an accident in what he described as “difficult weather and surface conditions.” He didn’t release details about those conditions, the patient or why paramedics from his department were called to the home.

Buss says the fire department and village officials were devastated to learn days later that the patient had died. A coroner’s office is investigating the cause of death.
