FORT DRUM, N.Y. (AP) - Military officials say people living near the northern section of Fort Drum shouldn’t be alarmed if the noise level at the nearby Army base is higher than normal.

Officials at the sprawling post in northern New York say the fort’s Range 48 will be used for training Friday afternoon by the Air Force’s 4th Fighter Wing. The unit based at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina, is training in the North Country for future missions.

Fort Drum officials say the training involving the unit’s fighter jets will produce higher-than-normal noise levels in the vicinity of the Jefferson County town of Antwerp and the town of Fowler in neighboring St. Lawrence County.

Fort Drum is home to the 10th Mountain Division. Air Force and Air National Guard units also conduct training at the base.
