BURLINGTON, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say a 2-year-old boy has died after he apparently fell down an unsecured septic well.

The Skagit County Sheriff’s office says deputies responded to a report of a missing child near Burlington Monday morning. Chief of Patrol Operations Chad Clark told the Skagit Valley Herald ( https://bit.ly/1FwhSXk ) that the family of the boy were visiting another family when the boy apparently wandered off.

Deputies discovered the child inside the septic well and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Clark told the newspaper the situation “appears to be a tragic accident.”

Burlington is about 60 miles north of Seattle.
