BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - California’s search for a new athletic director is taking longer than expected.

The school originally expected to hire a replacement for Sandy Barbour in April. But in a statement released Monday, the school said it is methodically working through the process.

Interim athletic director Michael Williams remains a candidate for the full-time job. The statement said Chancellor Nicholas Dirks has no concerns about taking more time in the search because he feels the department “is in good and capable hands right now” under Williams’ leadership.
