“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace has apologized for insensitive comments he made regarding singer Kelly Clarkson’s weight.

Appearing on “The Mike Gallagher Show” Friday, Mr. Wallace said, “Kelly Clarkson’s got a lovely voice. She could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while.”

In a statement to Us Weekly, Mr. Wallace said he “sincerely” apologizes to Ms. Clarkson for his “offensive comment.”

“I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her,” Mr. Wallace said.

Mr. Gallagher also apologized in a written statement online after he said, “Holy cow, did she blow up,” about Ms. Clarkson during his show Friday.

“Tubby Mike is the last person in the world who should bring up anyone’s weight,” Mr. Gallagher wrote, USA Today reported. “I couldn’t possibly feel any worse than I do for making an observation that led to the conclusion that I ‘fat-shamed’ this talented and classy entertainer. It was a really stupid thing for me to do.”

This isn’t the first time Ms. Clarkson has been mocked recently for her weight. Last month, British TV personality Katie Hopkins joked that the singer looked like she had eaten her backup dancers, Us Weekly reported.

Ms. Clarkson addressed the negative comments last week on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

“It’s like, you’re just who you are. We are who we are. Whatever size, and it doesn’t meant that we’re gonna be that forever,” she said. “That’s the thing. Sometimes we’re more fit. Like especially me, I’m such a creative person that I yo-yo. So sometimes I’m more fit, and I get into kickboxing hardcore. And then sometimes I don’t, and I’m like … I’d rather have wine.”
