BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A 36-year-old Burlington, Vermont, man faces a charge of attempted unlawful sexual activity with a minor after he allegedly was caught up in a law enforcement sting operation.

Michael Fisher was ordered held after an initial court appearance in U.S. District Court.

The Burlington Free Press reports that he conducted a four-day conversation online with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl. The person turned out to be a law enforcement officer.

Fisher was arrested Friday after he went to a park in South Burlington to meet the person with whom he thought he had been communicating.

Fisher was convicted of a similar offense in 2003.

The federal public defender’s office in Burlington said it is representing Fisher, but he had not been assigned a lawyer as of Monday afternoon.
