SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - San Bernardino police say a possibly drunk man was arrested after he tried to run over two officers with his car and then led them on a high-speed pursuit.

Lt. Rich Lawhead says the officers were finishing a missing-person investigation Sunday when they heard an engine revving and then saw a black BMW SUV speeding toward them.

The Sun newspaper says (https://bit.ly/1aaX0de ) the driver just missed hitting the officers as they were walking to the curb.

After losing the BMW during a chase, the officers were able to track the vehicle to an apartment complex.

They arrested 27-year-old Terrance Jamal Cummings on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer. It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer.

The newspaper says investigators believe Cummings was intoxicated. A warrant was obtained for a blood sample from the suspect.
