PHOENIX (AP) - An ex-convict has been sentenced to 7 ½ years in federal prison for robbing a bank in Scottsdale last September.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 55-year-old Eddie Lee Hatch was sentenced Monday after previously pleading guilty to robbing a BBVA Compass Bank.

Witnesses say Hatch demanded money from the teller, but it was unclear if he had a gun.

Court records show the teller gave Hatch nearly $3,700 including $100 in bait bills.

Hatch fled the scene and later stopped to give money to two homeless people.

Authorities say Hatch didn’t want to be taken back into custody and tried to get police to kill him.

They say Hatch rammed his car into a police cruiser and fought with multiple officers after being shocked with a stun gun.
