FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - Immigrations and Customs Enforcement says a man with tuberculosis will not be released from detention in Arizona.

The man, who has not been identified, is at a detention center in Florence. Thomas D. Schryer, director of public health in Pinal County, said the agency notified him a few weeks ago that the man would be released. Schryer said the man has started and stopped treatment multiple times and is resistant to the common drugs used to battle tuberculosis.

ICE said the man was issued a removal order in 2013 and is an enforcement priority, but a judge must decide whether he will be deported.

Immigration authorities test all detainees for tuberculosis, although it’s fairly rare that a detainee is diagnosed.
