NORMAL, Ill. (AP) - Illinois State University has unveiled a portrait of President Larry Dietz.

Artist Rick Lewis says he wanted to capture Dietz’s affability in the piece. Lewis graduated from Illinois State with a master’s degree in art. Dietz is the school’s 19th president. He took the post about a year ago after the disorderly conduct conviction and resignation of Timothy Flanagan.

Dietz says he thinks the portrait is “better than real life” and that Lewis captured “what I hope is an openness.” Lewis created the painting after taking several photos of Dietz in the president’s office.

ISU officials tell The (Bloomington) Pantagraph (https://bit.ly/1GgOOGd ) that the portrait likely will be placed in the Bone Student Center once it is framed. It will be displayed along with portraits of previous ISU presidents.
