PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A man has been charged in the stabbing death of a woman found buried in a shallow grave behind an apartment building in northeast Philadelphia.

Authorities said Monday that 30-year-old Jeffrey Bowen was arrested on charges of murder, robbery, theft, abuse of a corpse and related offenses.

Officers called March 24 about a possible body in the city’s Frankford section reported seeing a human foot sticking out of the ground.

They found the body of 39-year-old Kelly Hepft wrapped in black plastic bags. The city medical examiner’s office said she had been stabbed to the head, neck and chest.

The Defender Association of Philadelphia, listed in court documents as representing Bowen, said no information was available Monday on whether an attorney had been assigned who could comment on the charges.
