FULTON, Mo. (AP) - A central Missouri man has pleaded guilty to an assault that killed a neighbor and injured the victim’s father.

KRCG-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1DF9c3l ) 24-year-old Jake Gastler of Auxvasse pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder in the August 2013 death of 30-year-old Zachery O’Connor.

Gastler admitted to assaulting O’Connor and his father, Michael O’Connor, who were his neighbors. He then called police, saying he found the men on the ground covered in blood.

He later admitted to repeatedly hitting the younger victim in the head during an argument and then attacking Michael O’Connor. He said neither man fought back.

Gastler also pleaded guilty to first-degree assault.

He was sentenced to 17 years in prison on both charges, to be served concurrently.
