CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A troop of Charlotte Girl Scouts is ripped off when members took a counterfeit $100 bill in return for cookies and change.

WBTV (https://bit.ly/1ICuvAm ) reports that members of Troop 2897 were selling cookies outside of a mattress store when a man said he needed change for a $100 bill to purchase two boxes. Girl Scouts gave the man the cookies and $92 in cash.

Troop treasurer Debbie Ruffert said a bank teller told her the bill was fake the next day when she sought to deposit the cookie sale earnings.

The troop was saving for a trip to Savannah, Georgia, but is out the funds for the counterfeit bill.
