PHOENIX (AP) - A Peoria man is accused of felony child abuse for allegedly kicking the car seat in which his 4-month-old step-grandson was sitting.

Police say 64-year-old James Collins also is jailed on suspicion of one count of felony aggravated assault and two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct.

It was unclear Monday if he has a lawyer yet.

Police say Collins was drinking Sunday and was told by his wife to leave the house after yelling at his stepdaughter.

They say Collins walked to where the child was sitting in the car seat on the ground and allegedly began to kick the front of it, causing it to tip backward each time.

Collins told police he was drinking his second gallon of vodka of the day when they arrived on the scene.
