HIAWATHA, Iowa (AP) - Police say they’re investigating a shooting that wounded one man over the weekend in Hiawatha.

The Hiawatha Police Department says officers responded to the shooting a little before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday and found a man with a gunshot wound to the stomach. The man was transported to a nearby hospital. His name and condition haven’t been released.

KCRG-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1C6NbnY ) that police arrested one person on traffic charges after chasing a vehicle believed to belong to a suspect in the shooting. Investigators located a gun discarded along the path the vehicle had traveled. Police haven’t specified whether the driver was actually involved.

Passengers in the car fled the scene. It is unclear whether they were taken into custody.

The case remains under investigation.
