NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - Police say they’re checking tips in California and Nevada in the search for a couple and five children who left a North Las Vegas home where a 3-year-old girl was found dead.

Sgt. Chrissie Coon said the search continued Monday for 39-year-old Jondrew Megil Lachaux (lah-SHO’) and 38-year-old Kellie Cherie Phillips.

Police said Friday that Lachaux and Phillips might be in the Los Angeles or Oakland, California, areas.

They’re sought for questioning, and police say authorities want to make sure the five children ages 1 to 9 are OK.

The case came to light after a badly malnourished 4-month-old girl was hospitalized last Wednesday and her 17-year-old mother was arrested.

The teen told police that her mother, Phillips, and Lachaux left her several weeks ago with the two younger children.
