ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) - A Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan official is seeking to establish a low-cost bus route between downtown Detroit and the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Romulus.

Under the direction of CEO Michael Ford, the authority is crafting a request for proposal with assistance from the airport for a bus service also connecting it to Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. The Detroit Free Press (https://on.freep.com/1FvDoeQ ) reports the plan is expected to mirror the successful AirRide service in Ann Arbor.

A spokesman says the Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan is working with the federal government to identify possible sources of funding.

Local public buses offered by the SMART suburban bus system run between the airport and downtown Detroit, but the ride is more than one hour each way.
