DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A 7-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was run over by a pickup truck on a Florida beach.

Florida Highway Patrol says Jenna McQueene of Summerville was running from a hotel toward the ocean Sunday afternoon when she tripped and fell in the lanes where vehicles are allowed to drive on Daytona Beach.

Troopers say the truck’s driver was driving 5 mph and didn’t know he had struck the girl until other motorists stopped him. No charges are pending.

Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Capt. Tammy Marris tells The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://bit.ly/1CavfYJ ) that Jenna was taken to a hospital with injuries to her abdomen and legs.

Daytona Beach officials are debating whether to end driving in part of the 17 miles of Volusia County beaches where vehicles can drive.
