SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A Springfield police officer who was shot in the head in January continues to make a surprising recovery.

Officer Aaron Pearson and his wife, Amanda Pearson, attended a fundraising event Saturday in Springfield to as he rebounds from his injuries. He recently returned to Springfield after undergoing rehabilitation in Atlanta since February.

Saturday’s fundraiser was the latest of several events in Springfield to show support and raise money for Pearson and his family since the shooting.

Doctors told Amanda that her husband might never speak again. But he spoke along with his wife in an interview with KYTV (https://bit.ly/1CKrwol ) although his words are sometimes jumbled. He and his family say he will have challenges but is able to communicate and help care for his two children.
