FORT MADISON, Iowa (AP) - A 38-year-old Fort Madison man is accused of shooting a 14-year-old boy in the southeast Iowa city.

Authorities say Donny West, who also is known as Donny McDonald, was arrested Sunday while trying to flee the scene. The boy was taken to Fort Madison Community Hospital with a wound that was considered non-life-threatening. His name and relationship to West have not been disclosed.

West is charged with domestic abuse assault, willful injury and other crimes. Lee County Jail records say West remained in custody on Tuesday. His attorney didn’t immediately return a call from The Associated Press seeking comment about the case for his client.
