KEY LARGO, Fla. (AP) - An autopsy is pending for a Pittsburgh man who died while scuba diving in the Florida Keys.

Fifty-year-old Andrei Kukushkin was diving from a private vessel with friends Monday at the wreck of a former Coast Guard cutter sunk off Key Largo. Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin says Kukushkin began having trouble as the group started to ascend from the wreck.

Herrin says Kukushkin stopped moving and began to drift before another diver could reach him and bring him back to their boat, where his friends attempted to revive him. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded and took Kukushkin back to shore.

Kukushkin was pronounced dead at a hospital.
