PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Providence City Council’s Ordinance Committee is considering a proposal to redevelop 300 acres along the riverfront.

The Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/1c43UlR ) reports that the Port Redevelopment Plan will be discussed at Tuesday’s committee meeting.

The Providence Redevelopment Agency says the plan will give them funding and legal authority to clean up contaminated sites and consolidate lots in the 300-acre parcel along the riverfront from the Harbor Junction Pier south to Fields Point. The agency says the land is plagued by contaminated soil and poor utilities.

They say development is hindered by the layout of properties within the parcel, including about 20 lots that are less than one acre.

The plan calls for $3 million in state Economic Development Administration grant money and $10 million in bonds issued by the agency.
