VENTURA, Calif. (AP) - A state appeals court has overturned a ruling that said air pollution regulators can limit the amount of dust blowing off the popular Oceano Dunes off-road vehicle spot on the Central Coast.

The San Luis Obispo Tribune (https://bit.ly/1aHgGGs ) says the court on Monday ruled there was no authority to require an air quality permit for the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area.

A lower court judge had dismissed two lawsuits that challenged requirements established by the San Luis Obispo Air Pollution Control District. But the state appellate court said the agency overstepped its authority.

The ruling could be appealed to the state Supreme Court.

But Larry Allen, the county’s air pollution control officer, says he’ll consult with his agency’s board of directors before deciding how to proceed.
