TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a Tallahassee man for fatally shooting his sister while imitating a gun-twirling scene from the movie “Tombstone.”
Eric Stayton was arrested Friday on a manslaughter charge and posted bail at the Leon County jail. The Tallahassee Democrat reports (https://on.tdo.com/1yakJpp ) that the 50-year-old told deputies that the shooting was an accident.
According to court documents, Stayton hosted a party Sept. 14 for his sister Renee Chaires, and he told deputies that he had been drinking beer before performing a gun-spinning sequence from the 1993 movie.
Witnesses said Stayton dropped the gun, which fired when it hit the ground. Chaires was shot in the neck. The 39-year-old died at a hospital.
It wasn’t clear why Stayton wasn’t charged until Friday. Jail records didn’t show whether he had an attorney.
