In his only two events this year, he shot a career-worst 82 and missed the cut by nine strokes in the Phoenix Open and withdrew during the first round at Torrey Pines because of tightness in his lower back. He missed the Masters last year following back surgery. … Top-ranked Rory McIlroy is trying to become the sixth player to complete a career Grand Slam. … Phil Mickelson, the 2004, 2006 and 2010 winner, tied for 17th in Houston. … The RBC Heritage is next week at Harbour Town in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
