KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee forward Cierra Burdick has become the 25th student-athlete at the school to be named a Torchbearer, described as the highest student honor given out by the university.

The Torchbearer honor is given to Tennessee seniors who combine academic achievement and outstanding commitment to others. The only other Tennessee women’s basketball player to receive this honor was Kara Lawson in 2003.

Burdick, a communication studies major, owns a 3.86 grade point average. She’s a three-year member of the Southeastern Conference’s Academic Honor Roll and a two-year member of the SEC Community Service Team.

Burdick averaged 11 points and 7.6 rebounds per game this season for Tennessee, which went 30-6 and lost 58-48 to Maryland in the NCAA Spokane Region final.
