BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A 24-year-old man has acknowledged stabbing a well-known photographer and philanthropist to death in downtown Billings.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://goo.gl/s8aVA0 ) Zachariah James Wiseman pleaded guilty Monday to deliberate homicide in the June 19 death of 66-year-old Michael Sample. Wiseman is scheduled to be sentenced June 15.

Police called to Sample’s office found two men holding Wiseman down inside the building, while a woman applied pressure to a stab wound to Sample’s abdomen. The three people who intervened told investigators they had come to Sample’s office to ask him for money because he was known to hand out cash to people in need.

Prosecutors say Wiseman was high on drugs when he stabbed Sample three times.
