NEDROW, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they’re searching for a man who fired a handgun as firefighters battled a mobile home fire on the Onondaga Indian Nation outside Syracuse.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says firefighters were called around 6:35 a.m. Tuesday to a trailer fire on Onondaga land in Nedrow, just south of Syracuse.

Officials say as firefighters fought the blaze, a man carrying a lacrosse stick emerged from the woods. When deputies began to approach him, deputies say he pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired at least one shot in the air before fleeing back into the woods.

Firefighters took cover before deputies were able to safely get them away from the scene.

No injuries have been reported.

Police say the empty trailer was destroyed in the fire. The cause of the blaze isn’t known.
