SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a 27-year-old man arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor public intoxication has died in an intake holding cell at the Sacramento County Main Jail.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1Ca0pQZ) the death occurred Monday evening, about three hours after the man was taken into custody in Rancho Cordova.

The Sheriff’s Department says the death does not appear to be suspicious.

The man’s name is withheld pending notification of family.

The newspaper says sheriff’s officials will conduct an inmate-death investigation in accordance with department procedures and state law.
