TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Democratic voters in north Tulsa will head to the polls to select their new state senator following the resignation earlier this year of former state Sen. Jabar Shumate.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday in 31 precincts in Tulsa County and four precincts in Osage County. Only registered Democrats will get to cast their ballot in Tuesday’s primary election, since no Republicans or independents filed for the post.

The candidates are current state Rep. Kevin Matthews, Heather Nash and Regina Goodwin, all of Tulsa. There will be no runoff.

Shumate resigned in January, just before the start of the legislative session.

Last week, University of Oklahoma President David Boren announced Shumate’s hiring for a newly created position of vice president of the university community.
